On Site Machining
ALTO provides on-site machining alignment, dimensional inspection and laser tracker measurement services worldwide. With teams and equipment positioned in the region, we provide rapid mobilisation across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, the wider Middle East and Africa. Our engineers support wind energy, shipbuilding, Oil & Gas, power generation, steel production and heavy industrial projects.
Portable machining equipment is used to mill surfaces, face flanges, machine bearing housings, perform line boring and drill precision holes directly at the installation site. Accurate measurement is essential before, during and after machining to establish the correct datum, position the machine and verify the final geometry.
ALTO uses portable Leica and FARO laser tracker systems to support on-site machining activities in workshops, fabrication yards, power plants, shipyards and offshore environments. Battery-powered measurement systems allow our engineers to operate in demanding locations where portability, measurement range and rapid setup are essential.
Laser Tracker Support for On-Site Machining
- Pre-machining inspection: Measurement of the existing component geometry to identify deformation, material conditions and the required machining allowance.
- Datum and reference establishment: Creation and transfer of reliable coordinate systems, centre lines, axes, planes and reference points for machining operations.
- Portable machine alignment: Accurate positioning and orientation of milling, flange-facing, drilling and line-boring equipment before machining begins.
- Real-time machining monitoring: Continuous or periodic measurement during machining to verify position, level, straightness, depth and material removal.
- Flange inspection and machining support: Measurement of flatness, diameter, bolt-hole position, orientation and mating geometry before and after flange facing.
- Bearing-housing and bore alignment: Verification of bore centres, diameters, concentricity and alignment relative to shafts or machine centre lines.
- Drilling and hole-position control: Measurement and marking of drilling positions, bolt patterns and critical interfaces according to drawings or CAD data.
- Post-machining verification: Final dimensional inspection to confirm that the machined surfaces and features meet the specified geometry and tolerances.
- 3D analysis and reporting: Processing of measurement data using SpatialAnalyzer and PolyWorks, with clear dimensional results for engineering review and project documentation.
Metrology Throughout the Machining Process
ALTO supports the complete on-site machining workflow, from initial dimensional assessment and machining studies to equipment alignment, real-time monitoring and final acceptance inspection. Immediate measurement feedback allows machining teams to make informed adjustments before additional material is removed.
This integrated approach helps reduce setup errors, prevent excessive machining, limit rework and confirm the final condition before the equipment returns to service.
Partner with ALTO for on-site machining metrology support worldwide and rapid mobilisation across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the GCC, Egypt, the wider Middle East and Africa.
