Oil & Gas
ALTO provides Oil & Gas dimensional inspection, alignment, reverse engineering, virtual fit-up and integrated metrology solutions worldwide. With teams and equipment positioned in the region, we provide rapid mobilisation across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, the wider Middle East and Africa. Our engineers support fabrication yards, offshore facilities, refineries, petrochemical plants and installation contractors throughout manufacturing, assembly, installation, maintenance and modification activities.
We combine specialist metrology expertise with advanced technologies from Hexagon and Creaform. Our capabilities include laser tracker measurement, industrial total-station surveys, portable measuring-arm inspection, 3D scanning, photogrammetry, reverse engineering and automated inspection. Using advanced analytical metrology software such as SpatialAnalyzer and PolyWorks, ALTO performs virtual fit-up and assembly simulations to verify component compatibility, identify clashes and determine the optimal assembly position before installation. This helps reduce or eliminate physical trial fit-ups, trial lifts, rework and project delays.
Oil & Gas Dimensional Inspection Services
- Large-scale dimensional surveys: Accurate measurement of fabricated structures, modules, skids, piping interfaces and industrial equipment using laser trackers, total stations and 3D scanners.
- Fabrication control: Dimensional verification during manufacturing to identify deformation, incorrect positioning and tolerance deviations before final assembly.
- Flange and interface inspection: Measurement of flange flatness, orientation, diameter, bolt-hole position, concentricity and mating geometry.
- Machinery and equipment alignment: Laser tracker alignment of shafts, couplings, pumps, compressors, foundations, bearing locations and other critical equipment.
- As-built surveys: Capture of existing geometry to support modification, replacement, installation planning and project documentation.
- 3D scanning and reverse engineering: Digital capture and CAD reconstruction of existing, worn, modified or undocumented components and structures.
- Automated scanning-based inspection: Integration of robotic scanning systems for fast, repeatable and operator-independent inspection in production and fabrication environments.
- Method-statement development: Evaluation of fabrication and installation sequences to create repeatable measurement procedures, datum strategies and reporting requirements.
Remote Analysis and Virtual Fit-Up
Measurement data captured at different fabrication yards or project locations can be processed and analysed remotely by ALTO’s metrology specialists. Using SpatialAnalyzer and PolyWorks, datasets from separately manufactured components can be aligned, compared and assembled digitally before physical mobilisation begins.
- Virtual assembly and fit-up analysis: Digital simulation of component assembly to verify compatibility and identify potential dimensional conflicts before installation.
- Clash and misalignment detection: Identification of interface problems, positional errors and tolerance conflicts before lifting or offshore assembly operations.
- Best-fit and orientation studies: Calculation of the optimal component position and orientation based on measured geometry and available tolerances.
- Trial-fit and trial-lift reduction: Virtual verification can reduce or eliminate physical trial fit-ups and trial lifts, helping minimise crane time, rework, costs and installation delays.
- Temperature compensation: Application of material and environmental compensation to correlate measurements captured under different temperature conditions.
- 3D analysis and reporting: Clear deviation maps, dimensional reports and visual assembly results for engineering review and project documentation.
Integrated Metrology Solutions for Oil & Gas
ALTO supports the complete dimensional-control workflow, from feasibility studies, measurement planning and datum definition to on-site data acquisition, remote analysis, virtual fit-up and final reporting. We can provide an individual inspection, ongoing project support or a complete solution incorporating measurement hardware, software, automation and specialist consultancy.
Our approach helps Oil & Gas companies, fabricators and installation contractors identify dimensional issues earlier, improve assembly readiness and make informed engineering decisions before components reach their final installation location.
On-Site Machining Alignment
ALTO provides on-site machining alignment using Hexagon Leica AT960 and AT500 and FARO Vantage laser trackers for datum establishment, flange flatness, bore alignment and bolt-hole positioning.
Offshore Topside Inspection
Offshore topside inspection using total stations and laser scanning for deck flatness, column positioning, structural alignment and virtual assembly.
Jacket
Offshore jacket metrology using laser trackers and 3D scanning for node positioning, brace alignment, fabrication control and virtual assembly worldwide.
SuPAR AR Visual Inspection
SuPAR AR visual inspection connects digital CAD data with physical components using augmented reality. The application overlays design geometry directly onto the real part, helping operators identify discrepancies, verify component positioning and follow assembly instructions.
Users can capture photographs, add comments and document quality issues directly during inspection. The collected information can be shared through PDF, Excel and 3D reports, improving traceability and communication between production, quality and engineering teams.
SuPAR supports visual quality control, assembly guidance, maintenance and collaborative inspection activities. ALTO provides application assessment, configuration, implementation and training across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Africa.
On-Site Milling Machine Alignment
ALTO provides on-site alignment of portable milling machines using high-accuracy laser trackers across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. We establish machining references, guide equipment positioning and perform pre- and post-machining dimensional inspection on large components that cannot be moved to a conventional CNC machine.
